An epic Photo/Text work, with performative and participative components about/around/with… the Zona Colonial of Santo Domingo…
A photographic rendition of the zona colonial over a quarter century. A photo-textual epic constructed through more than two dozen chapters (capítulos), each of which is based on various explorations of photographic language and practice AND different modalities of presentation, exhibition and performance. The chapters are conceived and carried out through axes that can be stylistic (BW, slightly out of focus strand), thematic (La Esquina (the Corner)), and/or formalistic (a photo-textual installation, a digital stream)–but always focused on a very deep and narrow unearthing of the Zona Colonial. {Zona|Still} brings the energy, the vibe, the changing (and unchanging) nature of any place through a multitude of photographic strategies, platforms and thematics. Multiple locations and platforms. Multiple modalities of exhibitions and presentation, with chapters that are almost epic in their own rights. In the service of a unique portrait and tapestry of a historical, complex, fascinating and vibrant part of the world, {Zona | Still} also functions as an archetype of deep and narrow digging into the rendition of any particular PLACE.
For group or solo exhibitions, the ultimate selection of particular images or compositions are based on the allotted space and the overall vision. Work shown can be a small part of a chapter, a full chapter, or a cluster that brings components of different chapters together in a unique and singular conglomeration–from large prints to salon-style hangs to photo-installations and performances.
