Parliament for the Emancipation of Punctuation

The Parliament for the Emancipation of Punctuation is a faux Society–but a real distributed and durational project–conceptualized, created, and implemented officially in 2015 (but actually functionally at play from my very first writings, meaning from 2000 onwards). PEP generates new punctuation signs, invents various grammars of punctuation usage, and puts into motion other schematics that have to do with the symbolics and poetics of punctuation.

The Parliament is dedicated to freeing us from the limited signs of punctuation and the limited and O so ridiculously conventional usage of punctuation. Uncentered and unobstructed, the Parliament’s work unfolds in distributed and durational ways mostly through actual literary pieces and works–where punctuation can best be recreated: through poetic and prose works; through posts, performances, theoretical bursts, and presentations; through authorial drifts, bits, and hits; through oral interventions and statements and reflective meditations; through the tales and poems whose subject matter and unfolding rest on stylistics that take into account the full potential of punctuational import in the literary realm.

We want more signs.

We want a punctuation that is conjugated!

We want a punctuation that better takes account of our pauses, our exclamations, our questoins and gestures. That expresses doubt, and tone and the ambiguities!

We want to manifest it. Codify it. Circulate it. and write with it!

Onward with the New Punctuation movement!

And the Emancipation of Punctuation!

Hail to the Parliament for the Emancipation of Punctuation!
