New Museum Educatics (& Avant-Garde Museum Education)

Innovative and provocative, irreverent yet rigorous, adventurous but firmly rooted in reflective practice, propositions put forth in this lecture place contemporary museum education at the forefront and intersection of critical theory and pedagogy, social and cultural design, creative and artistic practice, and the reimagining of a relevant post-museum.

This was the name I gave to the lecture and the budding field, but the actual work had taken place throughout: directing innovative projects at The Museum of Modern Art in New York; teaching for MoMA, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Queens Museum; doing workshops for museums large and small across the US and in the world; writing the course(s) and teaching museum education classes at Pratt, along with co-designing the Museum and Gallery Practices Minor; consulting with specific museums and holding residencies at Museo Amparo in Puebla, Mexico; writing other tracts, including Museo Equis, which went deep into what a New Museum Educatics could be, and how that can transform museums in general…
